Why is My Air Conditioner Blowing Hot Air?

When you turn your A/C on, the last thing you want is to feel hot air blowing from your vents. There are many reasons your air conditioner might be acting up, some of which you can solve yourself. For more serious issues, you have the Pros at Comfort Pro on your side.

Thermostat Issues

If you feel warm air coming from your vents when you’re trying to cool your home, check your thermostat. The most common issue we see is the fan is set to “ON” instead of “AUTO.” Why does this matter? Well, when set to “ON,” your blower fan runs constantly even when your air conditioner isn’t providing any cool air to circulate.

Check to ensure your thermostat is set to “COOL,” and the temperature is set point (your desired temperature) is below the current temperature of your home.

Airflow Restrictions

Your air conditioner works by taking unwanted heat from inside and releasing it outside. The means that your A/C needs breathing space to do its job properly. Any reduction in airflow by things like overgrown shrubbery can hinder your air conditioners ability to perform and may cause it to blow warm air.

Another common airflow issue is your air filter. We recommend replacing your air filter every three months or at the start of every season. If you or someone in your home suffers from allergies, consider replacing your filter even more frequently. If your air filter hasn’t been changed recently or is clogged with dust and debris, replace it immediately.

Power Loss

With split air conditioners, you need both your indoor and outdoor unit working properly to ensure you’re receiving cool air throughout your home. Another issue to check is making sure you don’t have a tripped breaker. Go to your breaker panel and see if any switches are tripped. If your air conditioner tripped a breaker, wait a few minutes to see if it trips again. If your A/C trips the breaker again, it is time to give us a call. If the breaker stays on, your air conditioner is fine to run.

If your air conditioner is still blowing warm air through your vents after checking these common problems, give the Pros a call. We have a large team and serve all of Central Kansas for your heating, air and plumbing needs. Avoid future air conditioner problems in the heat of summer by getting it serviced at the beginning of the season. Give us a call at 1-800-937-3030.
